About ExactPDF

ExactPDF makes free PDF and Markdown tools, plus ExactPDF Max, an optional paid service for larger jobs. Most tools run in your browser, so the files you use with them are not uploaded. The workflows that need a server say so on their pages.

Where your files are processed

Most tools run in your browser

Tools such as Compress PDF, Merge PDF, Split PDF, PDF to JPG, OCR PDF and PDF editor process files on your device with JavaScript and WebAssembly. Those files are not uploaded.

Office and Word to PDF use our servers

Converting Word, Excel and PowerPoint files needs LibreOffice, so Office to PDF and Word to PDF upload the file over HTTPS to a temporary converter. It deletes its temporary copy when the conversion request finishes; files from interrupted uploads are removed by a later cleanup.

ExactPDF Max, the API and MCP are hosted

ExactPDF Max and the paid API and MCP workflows run on our servers by design and need an account. Their pages and the Privacy Policy describe storage and retention. See ExactPDF Max, API documentation and developer setup (API and MCP).

We measure page views and tool usage with Google Analytics and Ahrefs Web Analytics. File names, file contents and extracted text are not sent to analytics.

Limits

Free browser tools need no account, have no daily task counter and add no watermark. They do have per-file limits: the shared uploader accepts files up to 150 MB by default, some tools set a lower limit and show it on the page (free read-aloud accepts PDFs up to 500 KB), and very large files depend on your device's memory.

Office and Word to PDF accepts files up to 200 MB. ExactPDF Max is an optional paid plan (~$3/month) for larger files and background jobs; its current workflow limits are listed in the FAQ.
